BHINNEKA TUNGGAL IKA, NOT ONLY A SLOGAN IN MAJAPAHIT ERA

Indonesian society is known by the world with a tolerant attitude that many other nations admire. In line with the motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) which is listed in the State's symbol, it seems that only this Archipelago can really apply beautifully.

Indeed, many people already know that the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika sentence is taken from the Sutasoma Book written by Mpu Tantular with the complete sentence "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Tan hana dharma mangwra".

But maybe not many know that Sutasoma was made in the 14th century during the heyday of Hayam Wuruk King in Majapahit. Tells about the king Sutasoma. The king who succeeded in defeating the human eaters, the Kalimapasada.

This story really focuses on unity, but from the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika sentence itself reflects the syncretism between Hinduism and Buddhism in Java at that time.

In Majapahit, Hindu and Buddhist syncretism is manifested in a sect of beliefs in the form of Shiva Buddha. A teaching that can only be found in the archipelago, a reflection of the tolerance that occurred at that time.

These exposures about Hindu Buddhist syncretism in Java can be found in the History of Java Museum Yogyakarta, including artifacts that represent their existence.

Furthermore, even Hindu Buddhist syncretism did not only occur from the time of Majapahit, but in the previous period, such as the Medang Kemulan kingdom. There have also been interplay between Hindu and Buddhist teachings on the island of Java.

History of Java itself also stores Artifacts in the form of Shiva Buddha statues that can be seen clearly where the siva is depicted as a Buddha. In its educational board, the Museum also provides Augmented reality some ritual objects both Hindu and Buddhist that have similar forms and functions in their use.
