Colonialism in Java

There was competition among European nations to search for new territories throughout the world in order to carry out the 3G mission, Gold, Glory and Gospel. Gold is a parable about the mission's desire to acquire wealth, by mastering the trade of important commodities in the world. Glory is to get the glory of his people over other nations in the world. and the Gospel, which is to carry out a mission to spread religion in regions throughout the world. The pioneers of this kind of mission are Spain and Portugal in Europe. Who carried out its mission to the West and East.

The first European nation to arrive in the archipelago was the Portuguese led by Alfonso de Albuquerque who was the main architect of Portuguese expansion into Asia and the first European people to begin European colonization of the archipelago.

In March 1602, the Dutch tried to monopolize the spice trade by forming a trading company called the VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie). A year later, the VOC had established its trading post in Banten, then expanded to the eastern part of the archipelago.

May 30, 1619 Jan Pieterszoon Coen attacks Banten, repelling the Banten army. Building Batavia as a military and administrative center that was relatively safe for warehousing and exchange of goods, because from Batavia it was easy to reach trade routes to eastern, far east, Europe. Since then the VOC began to dominate the archipelago.

The VOC was basically limited to controlling only certain lowland areas in Java. Mountainous areas are often unsuccessful and this area is used as a rebel hideout. Inevitably rebellions resulted in difficulties and drained VOC funds. Even so, the VOC's sneaky tactics with devide et impera succeeded in breaking the big empire in Java until it could be controlled more easily by the VOC.

Because of the official corruption and the costs of the war, January 1, 1800 the VOC was officially dissolved, the Council was established for Asian colonial affairs. The Dutch lost the war and were controlled by France. The territories owned by the Dutch belonged to France. European Colonialist domination continued with the Javanese territory under British control and then again dominated by the Dutch until the Second World War erupted.
