KENTONGAN, AN ANCIENT JAVANESE EARLY WARNING SYSTEM

Later disasters often occurred on the island of Java, from tornadoes, floods, to tsunamis, which hit several parts of the most densely populated island in Indonesia.
Javanese people themselves are already quite familiar with disasters, even historical records prove that on this island several catastrophic disasters have claimed many casualties and losses, but the Javanese are able to survive and recover themselves quickly.

The Javanese people themselves actually have a simple Early Warning System that has become part of the local custom in the form of kentongan, automatically, the sound of kentongan being beaten 'continuously' will make people who hear it more alert.

HoJ kentongan Collection

This was revealed when visiting the History of Java Museum, where the museum does store a number of jars from various regions in Java, the Story teller will also tell the function of other functions of kentongan which are generally made of hard enough wood.

Museum located on Jl. This Parangtritis Km 5.5 Sewon Bantul indeed provides comprehensive information about the lives of Javanese people in the past.

Without abandoning the main mission of historical education and literacy, the History of Java Museum also intends to make a museum that by some Indonesian people is a boring and creepy place, an interesting and up to date educational vehicle.

At the beginning, visitors were invited to catch an audio-visual glimpse of how the island of Java was formed to the people on Java. Then visitors can see the museum collection with historical artifacts artifacts.

Interestingly, visitors will be accompanied by a museum story teller that will explain interestingly about the museum's content and history. Not only that, the History of Java Museum, as well as other D’topeng Group museums, is also equipped with Augmented Reality that visitors can use for self-photography.

Within the collection zone itself, there is a Royal Palace Pavilion, which will display collections and Bilingual Education Board regarding the Surakarta Kasunanan Palace, the Jogjakarta Sultanate Palace, Pura Mangkunegaran and Pura pakualaman.

After the collection zone, visitors will enter the diorama zone with the name Kampung Selfie Mataraman, where visitors can interactively experience interesting things in the past on the island of Java, as well as take pictures on 3D interactive board.

So, it is not wrong if this museum becomes one of the objects that should not be missed if we visit Yogyakarta.
